Hurricanes

Hurricanes are very dangerous storms. They attack mostly in certain areas. It is best to keep your distance from them.  Hurricanes are something that are quite complex, have certain standards to start, and they have many effects, good and bad.
Hurricanes are deadly storms with many interesting details. They can have a span of six hundred miles, which is around the size of an entire state. Also the strong winds that they are most famous for can go from 75 mph to 200 mph. I would hold onto my hat if I were in that storm.  Hurricanes look a bit like an eye from above. The center of it is actually called the eye. The storm spins counter clockwise around the eye. The storm can also last a week which must be torture. Hurricanes can sometimes even cause tornadoes which are even more dangerous.
Hurricanes are quite picky for starting, but in certain areas the standards are usually there. The places hurricanes are most frequent is in Florida, Gulf coast, Texas to Maine, Carrabin, and the Pacific ocean. Those areas have warmer water which is mandatory to start a hurricane. The warm water practically powers the hurricane.  For a hurricane, up a bit higher in the sky the temperature should be able to drop quite fast. It must also be humid in that area.  The ocean must be at least 80 degrees Fahrenheit. Hurricanes are very picky for where they start.  To see where hurricanes start the meteorologists observe where past hurricanes were. Also a hurricane follows the current of the water it is in so they can get a general idea of where the storm will travel. As usual scientists can also predict hurricanes by a satellite.

There are multiple effects of hurricanes and you might be surprised that they are not all even bad, but most of them are. When you think of the effects of hurricanes you automatically think of death and that is true. Ninety percent of all hurricane deaths are caused by storm surges. Storm surges are when the water level raises a lot. However it is definitely not tide. Storm surges can cause flooding which is clearly dangerous.  Hurricanes are so strong they pull things out of the ground like trees.  Hurricanes can also even slightly move your house. The winds can also break windows and glass. However the good affects of hurricanes are sometimes the rainfall. Some places depend on hurricanes just like how places in India depend on monsoons.  Hurricanes also lower the temperature in that area. That prevents more hurricanes from happening there.

Hurricanes are a strong and almost magic force that you should keep your distance from. I believe that you should be prepared for a hurricane in any area even if you are not in an area they are most frequent at.  Hurricanes are like machines with all of the moving cogs like how they are caused or even what it is, also it has so many different affects to the storm.

  1. Excellent resources Abby. What types of warning systems are in place? How can people be informed that a hurricane has developed in their area?
